Well in the Desert Annual Christmas Dinner at the Convention Center 2012
Dear Santa made his annual trip to Palm Springs to deliver lots of good cheer and presents for the children, the young at heart, seniors and a few pets. It was a great success as we shared a delicious dinner with almost 1900 people, many more than last year. Everyone benefited from the generosity of the good-hearted people who donated their time, talent, money, gifts, volunteers, donors and of course our fearless leader Arlene and her board who make sure everything flows with ease. There were a lot of smiling faces and happy well fed children. As much as the children love the new toys, a solid meal and family time together, for me the real gift of Christmas was the joy on the faces of the volunteers who were giving from their big hearts. It always makes you feel better helping others. Thank you Well in the Desert for a job well done. Kae Schreiber

| Thursday, November 24th, 2011
Close to 500 people attended the Thanksgiving dinner held at the First Baptist Church on Thanksgiving day. Tables inside and outside were filled with people enjoying all of the traditional fare of the season: turkey, ham, stuffing, mashed potatoes, greens, salad, and plenty of pies, thanks to longtime supporters Tricia and Tom Prentice. Eve Holmes made the day even more festive . She sang songs from every genre and guests got up and danced. Close to 100 people from the community came out to volunteer. The day was a real success thanks to the combined efforts of staff, community, and volunteers. |

| This Christmas was described as magical by all who first entered the main room of the Palm Springs Convention Center. Glimmering drapes in deep green were the backdrop to the stage where Santa and Mrs. Claus would enter later in the day. Long tables of delicious edibles were available on both sides of the much expanded room from last year. Over 200 volunteers donned aprons and gloves to participate in a labor of love that made the whole day look easy. Staff and volunteers had been working for over a month to make this day so very special. Over 1000 Christmas presents that were donations from the community, businesses, institutions, were wrapped for over a month at our main office. Under the leadership of Event Planner Paula Joyce the Convention Center sparkled with hand-made table decorations and the crafts tables for the children were full of fun activities for them to engage in. The Mariachis were very special this year. Mariachi Nuevo Amanecer, a group of young teenagers who enchanted all with their musical excellence, played for much of the eating time, prior to Santa’s arrival. Paul MacKey and his golden voice brought Santa and Mrs. Claus in with two Christmas songs. The toy giving lasted almost two hours, and never before have we seen such a beautiful group of respectful children. And one could see all the interesting painted faces our volunteers created at the face-painting station. It was a day of sheer joy and pleasure for the slightly over 1500 people. | |||

| Thanksgiving 2010 was held at Our Lady of Solitude Church, one of the Well's longtime church partners. The mood was festive and the crowd almost too big for the small church with a big heart. Over 300 people turned out for a Thanksgiving dinner, with almost 100 volunteers. We would like to thank Father John and all those at the Church for making Thanksgiving possible for so many seniors, families with children, homeless people and all others who chose to spend a lovely day with the Well in the Desert family. | ||
